The Tyrants have safely made the playoffs in the last three years, making it out of the first round just once, this after eleven seasons of not making the playoffs. Five first overall picks, a second and a third. You would think they would have a powerhouse by now. Not the case, but at last there are signs of improvement. They were the fourth highest scoring team in the CDHL last year, and did pick up Alexander Ovechkin half way through the season.
Offensively they look pretty good, but they are right up against the salary cap. Some wheeling and dealing could be in the works.
His first line, Ovechkin, Mackinnon and Hall is one of the best in the league. The next two lines are pretty good too, and fairly young as well. He has some talent in the system, with Henrik Borgstrom set to step in and Martin Necas not far behind. Offence rating: 4th
I would rank his defensive core at dead centre in the league. Rielly, Suter and Giordano should lead the way again, and that's a pretty solid group. Travis Sanheim is set to show what he can do, so no real problems at this position, just not quite as good as some of the competition. Watch for Olli Juolevi, he could get some playing time this year as well. Defence rating: 7th
It looks like the Tyrants and the Blades could be fighting for that last playoff spot in the Premier Division. They're close. The difference could come down to who has the best season, Kucherov or Ovechkin. The Tyrants have a little better depth, so all being equal, I give the nod to them.
Breakout Player: Henrik Borgstrom
Top Rookie: Olli Juolevi
Season Prediction: 27 - 21 - 6 - 60 pts, 4th place Premier Division, 7th overall.
