Roadrunners were champions in 2016, first overall in 2017, and doo-doo in 2018.
The Roadrunners started trading away their future in 2016 in an all or nothing run at the cup. With
complete success. They won the cup, and they have no future.
This is another team in complete rebuild. No Ovechkin, no Letang, no Sedins, no Subban and not much in
the system to replace them, having traded away most of his last three years worth of draft picks.
Other than Alex Galchenyuk, the players at the top end of his roster are right now pretty much in their
prime, or slightly over it. What you see is what you are going to get for the next four or five seasons.
He has no players under 21 on his team before this year's draft.
I would say that this is the worst group of starting forwards in the CDHL. Galchenyuk, Stone, Nugent-
Hopkins and Duchene are probably his only point per game players. Last year the team ahead of him had
eight point per game players, and they didn't make the playoffs. Who's in the system to replace them?
Maybe T.J. Compher, maybe Brett Ritchie, maybe... nope that's it. Offence rating: 12th
On defence, not the worst in the league, but close. The good news is most of them are 25 or younger so
there is hope for the future. Don't be surprised if one of his youngest, Noah Hanifin, is one of his
best this year, and Julius Honka could be right up there next year. Defence rating: 10th
The Roadrunners have no hope of making the playoffs this year, and probably not the next three or four
either.
Breakout Player: Noah Hanifin
Top Rookie: Caleb Jones
Season Prediction: 10 - 39 - 5 - 25 pts, 6th place Premier Division, 12th overall.
