I got my Future Watch issue of the Hockey News last night.
This is my take on CDHL team grades, based on the Hockey News top 50 prospects.
First place to the Legends. They have the most top 50 prospects in their system with seven. They are one of four teams that have two prospects in the top 10, and the only team to have four in the top 20. They have a good mix with five forwards and two defencemen. Top prospect, Filip Forsberg at 4th overall.
Second place to the Ice-Breakers. They can claim 5 of the top 50, including two in the top 10, and three in the top 20. Three of their picks are defencemen, including their top two. Top prospect, Rasmus Ristolainen, defenceman, 7th overall.
Third place to the Blades. The Blades also have 5 players in the top 50, two in the top 10, and four in the top 30. They include 3 forwards, one defenceman and one goalie, the only team with a player from every position. Top prospect, Ryan Strome, at 5th overall.
Fourth place to the Dolphins. Three in the top 50, including two in the top 10. All three prospects are forwards. Top prospect, Teuvo Teravainen, 3rd overall.
Fifth place to the Sharks. The Sharks have four players in the top 50, three in the top 20. Three forwards and a goalie. Top prospect, goalie, Andrey Vasilevskiy, 13th overall.
Sixth place to the Knights. The Knights have four players in the top 50, two in the top 20. Three forwards and one defenceman. Top prospect, Griffin Reinhart, defenceman, 11th overall.
Seventh place to the Oilers. Three in the top 50, two in the top 20, and a mix of two forwards and one defenceman. Top prospect, Bo Horvat, 12th overall.
Eighth place to the Stallions. Three in the top 50, including number one overall, but only one in the top 40. All forwards. Top prospect, numero ono, Jonathan Drouin.
Ninth place to the Trouble. Four in the top 50, but only one in the top 30. Three defencemen and one forward. Top prospect, Darnell Nurse, defenceman, 21st overall.
Tenth place to the Flames. Only two in the top 50 and none in the top 30. One forward, one defenceman. Top prospect, Matt Dumba, defenceman, 31st overall.
Eleventh place to the Roadrunners. Only one player made the cut, a goalie in the top 30. Only prospect, Malcolm Subban, 25th overall.
Twelfth place to the Tyrants. No prospects in the top 50. Most of his young guys are already playing in the NHL.
This was just done for fun, and is solely based on the top 50 prospects in the Future Watch. So keep in mind that a lot of these players are probably ranked in the magazine on more than just their offensive abilities. That defenceman you have, that is ranked so highly, might just turn out to be a stay at home stud.
