With the NHL draft coming up, I guess we should figure out some ways to hold our draft. Some of us are in the 70 year old range, so getting together might not be feasible. Thoughts from the old guys on this please.
I've been on Zoom meetings with family, but I'm not sure if everyone in our league is comfortable with that.
Would it be possible to do it on our forum? Not sure how that would work. Maybe we could try a fake draft to test it out.
However we do it, I would like to do it before the NHL resumes play. The first five games of the next NHL season will be used to finish our playoffs. If we wait till after that to hold our draft it might be another four or five games for me to get everything set up, so our season might not start till ten or so games in. It will already be a short season without that, and who knows how long the NHL season will end up being.
Normally teams still in the playoffs cannot make trades, but this year will be an exception. For the two teams still playing, players taken in the draft, any trades, or any free agent pickups will not take effect until after the playoffs end. Player drops for all teams will not have to be done until after the playoffs end.
I'm open to any and all suggestions, so give me your thoughts on these ideas or any other ideas you might have.
Thanks, aj

Hello Commissioner
We have been waiting for your Bat signal that we are going to draft.
it is so good to see the hockey again. other than who won the cup that is.
I too have used Zoom a few times with 6 people, as long as everyone waits to speak it is good. 12 would be challenging. If we use Zoom I would suggest that any of us who are around each other that they are together draft day so we can limit the number of boxes and talk confusion that can happen. Kim and James can be same screen. any one can throw darts at a book for smith so right there we are down to 10.
The forum would also work too but getting to chat live with all you Yahoos is what makes draft day the best.
You should know me by now I am good to go with anyting Mon!
Cant wait boys enjoy tonight!

Hello all! Hope everyone is safe and well! Hey Doug I hear your on the rock! Whereabouts? I’m not sure about zoom I looked it up and the free App(acct) has a maximum of 40 min so that won’t work I don’t think.I’m sure that’s per day. $200 for the next up! Is that correct? If so I’m out! I could probably face time from my i-phone, don’t have a computer in the house. I’m sure we can all work something out! We got lots of time yet as the season opener was December now January so who knows! Maybe we should have a megadraft next year and no Wayne I’m not talking about big steins of beer! Lol. Ttyl. Take care all!

I have used zoom for many things, and I have never had a timing out problem. Asher's yoga is 45 minutes, Danielle uses it with multiple participants for 1 hour plus. Asher had a class meeting twice a month with 7 year old kids making it work, mute buttons on while others are presenting, for example. If 15 to 20 7 year olds can handle it so can 12 middle to old aged hockey clowns. If you have a tablet or a pc it will work. If Ed has neither of those options we could have a side conference call with him, maybe from Draft central... lol. We could do a practice session ahead of time for anyone interested. Host will send out invites via email and then everyone could try to connect, talk some trades or catch up on other stuff and make sure we can all work the buttons. And then we could pick a day for the big show. I think if Bettman wants a full season they might have to start a little earlier than Jan 1...

They had an outdoor game scheduled for Jan 1st, do you think that is still on?
Michelle has set up our zoom meetings, and they last 2 to 3 hours. I don't know if she paid for anything, but I will ask.

Hello everyone: I have used zoom numerous times and hated it every time. Only one person can talk at a time and usually the audio sucked big time. However, it could work. Patience is the name of the game with zoom. Also if it times out (which has happened often to me) the host just resends out the invite and everyone just signs in again. My thoughts are this: by the time we are ready to hold a draft, the worst of things could be behind us. I would be willing to rent a conference room at a hotel that would give us plenty of room to social distance while still giving us all a chance to unmercifully pick on the person of your choice!!!! I personally am not worried about being in a room full of people that are not in my family circle. But I am also more than willing to respect the wishes of those who are uncomfortable with it. I really don’t think walking into a large conference room, say, and remaining socially distant would be a problem. Everyone brings their own snacks and beverages, etc. As far as Ed being unable to attend there are numerous ways to hear him make his picks. Skype and FaceTime are two. Just my thoughts. Keep me posted. KP.

Dad can still host a draft. He has access to the large conference room at the Library in Strathmore. That is the large room he is talking about above... I will defer to the old guys every time though since they are at more risk than I am.

Well, Kim was going to host the draft this year, so if he feels safe, I could make it. Doug has joined Ed out of province, so it would be a max of 10 plus any spouses.
Any thoughts on when you all would like to hold the draft? October, November, December? The later we wait the greater the risk of the weather keeping people at home.

Anytime is good for myself. I agree with A.J. the sooner the better for weather purposes for you guys and to get that feel for hockey again as it has been too long! As K.P. mentioned FaceTime would work for me! It’s been a long stretch from missing out on the draft! Looking forward to seeing everyone again! Stay safe all!

I can check for available dates and times if you want...this room will hold upwards of 65+ people so we have lots of room and use of a kitchen area...or zoom will work for me also

Joyce has put a soft veto on me going anywhere. I guess I'm in for a zoom personally. That shouldn't stop everyone else who wants to get together, one person at the meeting could go on zoom.
